Leicester Tigers legend Peter Wheeler has been inducted in the Premiership Rugby Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to the professional club game. After a playing career with Leicester Tigers, England and the British & Irish Lions, Wheeler became coach at Welford Road and then club chief executive at the dawn of professionalism, and has played a prominent role in the development of the game through his work with Tigers, Premiership Rugby, Rugby Football Union, Professional Game Board and European Rugby.
Wheeler was inducted to the Premiership Rugby Hall of Fame alongside World Cup winners Jonny Wilkinson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Josh Lewsey, Phil Vickery and Simon Shaw, plus former Gloucester centre James Simpson-Daniel at a dinner at London's HAC which also raised funds for Sport Relief and Restart, the Rugby Players Association charity.
This year’s inductees join Leicester Tigers heroes Martin Johnson, Lewis Moody and George Chuter who were inducted to the Hall of Fame alongside referee Ed Morrison and the late Gloucester chairman Tom Walkinshaw in 2014.
