White joins the Tigers 100 club

Julian White admitted he was lost for words after being honoured for his 100th start in a Leicester Tigers shirt.

The England international reached the milestone in Saturday’s Guinness Premiership win over leaders Gloucester at Welford Road.

White, who made his Tigers debut in November 2003, was presented with his cap to mark the occasion by Tigers chairman Peter Tom and chief executive Peter Wheeler after the final whistle had blown on the 24-10 victory.

White said: “It is a really great honour to make 100 starts. It is hard to put it into words. It is brilliant, to get the support from the players and the boys around you as well.

“You can’t really put into words but it means a lot.”

A massive favourite with Tigers supporters, White was given a standing ovation by a sold-out Welford Road. He was joined in the celebrations by England teammate Ben Kay, who received an engraved decanter for his 200th start for the club in the Heineken Cup win against Perpignan in December.

White said: “It is a great club and we have fantastic supporters. You get quite emotional when everyone is there cheering for you. I was actually not aware it was my 100th start. It was brilliant.”

Tigers moved up to second place in the Guinness Premiership with the win, their third in a row.

And White, who was part of the 2006/07 double-winning team, feels Tigers are coming into form at just the right time.

He said: “It was a good game and the boys are going well. There is a really good feeling in the camp at the moment and the boys are playing well.

“I think Cockers (Richard Cockerill) and Matt (O’Connor) are doing a really good job. It’s the right time to hit a bit of form and it ‘s looking good for the rest of the season, I think.”
