Owen Williams says he hopes to fulfil every child's dream of playing for their country after being selected in the Wales squad for the RBS 6 Nations.

Fly-half Williams was today named in Wales's 36-man group for the Six Nations, which kicks off on Saturday, February 4 with Scotland taking on Ireland and England hosting France. Wales’s first fixture is on Sunday, February 5 away to Italy.

Williams found out about his inclusion as the announcement was made at lunch time today and admitted it was “a bit of a surprise”.

“It’s just nice to be involved in the squad and nice to know people are watching,” said the 24-year-old. “It was a bit of a surprise. It’s nice to see all the supportive messages.

“I’ve had a bit of stick off the boys, but they are chuffed as well. It’s been nice.

“There’s a training camp leading up to the Six Nations, there are a lot of good players in there. I have to keep my head down and work hard and hopefully the hard work will pay off.

“It’s every kid’s dream to play for his country and hopefully I will get to do that over the next few weeks.”

Tigers head coach Aaron Mauger said: “It’s fantastic news for Owen. He has been very good for us over the last four years and it is nice to have that recognition.”

England are due to announce their Six Nations squad on Friday.
