Sione aims to push on after home win

Sione Kalamafoni hopes a victory at Welford Road last Saturday can provide a platform for Leicester Tigers to push on in the remaining seven rounds of the Aviva Premiership season.

“It’s about time we came up with a result,” said the Tonga international No8 following the 33-18 win over Harlequins.

“It is a platform for us to build from towards the end of the season.

“It was an arm wrestle for us, a tough battle for us. Fair credit to the boys, we stayed in there and got that result.”

Kalamafoni played a key part in the try from Graham Kitchener, latching on to a kick from Matt Toomua and finding the lock in support on his left to score. Coming just moments after a Toomua try, it helped to swing the momentum in the Tigers’ favour.

“I didn’t call for it but someone outside me was calling for the kick,” Kalamafoni said. “I was just getting ready to chase and, lucky enough, it bounced into my hands. It was a team try.”

Now Tigers are preparing for a tough trip to Saracens this Sunday.

“There’s a lot to work on but, as I said, at least we have something to build from,” Kalamafoni added. “It will obviously be a tough away game but we’ll look at what’s required and what we need to work on.”
