Young players enjoy biggest Tigers Challenge so far

The final Tigers Challenge of the season attracted its biggest-ever entry at Butlin's Minehead during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.Leicester Tigers welcomed hundreds of clubs and their families to the second trip of the year to Minehead with teams of young players from across the country taking part in age-groups from under-sevens up to under-14s.   Well done to Narbeth RFC under-nines, Old Leamingtonians Wildcats under-10s, Cobham RFC Mavericks in the under-12s, Brentwood RFC Messexicans under-13s and Stoke on Trent RFC who topped the under-14s age group.   Beddau RFC Golds and Beddau RFC Greens were joint winners of the under-sevens age group, Rosslyn Park Force and Rosslyn Park Rebels joint winners in the under-eights, with the visiting teams from Ireland, CIYMS Titans and CIYMS Warriors, the joint winners of the under-11s group.   Rodney McCaughney from CIYMS said: “Our tour party comprised 27 boys and 25 parents which enabled us to enter two teams against English and Welsh opposition. A great weekend was had by all.    “The boys and dads enjoyed the very well organised event, and the excellent facilities on offer in Butlin’s.   “The tournament was a very memorable climax to these mini-rugby careers.”   Run in partnership with ESF Events, the opening Tigers Challenge took place at Butlin’s Bognor Regis in April 10, with Butlin’s Minehead the hosts at the end of April and again during Bank Holiday weekend.   More than 10,000 players and their families have been involved in the three festivals, with Tigers and England players Louis Deacon and George Chuter attending the end-of-tournament prize-giving.   Find out how your group can tour with Tigers by phoning the group days team on 0116 217 1216, or email [email protected]
