Leicester Tigers' Welford Road home hosts a series of Rugby Masterclasses for young players during the May half-term holiday.

The Masterclass series allows young players to focus on key aspects of the game, working with leading coaches on the pitch at the iconic home of the Tigers.

Anthony Allen, a lynchpin of the Tigers backline before retiring from the game last year, is now passing on his rugby knowledge to the Tigers academy and led the opening Attack and Decision Making Masterclass during the school half-term holidays on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of former back-rower Brett Deacon who led a Masterclass entitled Breakdown and Defence.

Deacon made more than 130 appearances in two spells with Tigers and was included in the matchday squad for finals of the Premiership, Cup and European Cup in the historic 2006/07 season before his retirement in 2013 and a move into coaching with the academy.

Former All Blacks back rower Craig Newby leads the final session, a Girls-Only Masterclass on Thursday (June 2), focusing on core skills in four areas – catch and pass, tackle, breakdown, and game sense/decision making.

Newby made his Test debut for New Zealand against England in 2004 and won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in Sevens before making 80 appearances for Tigers, captaining the 2011 Premiership Final team at Twickenham.

Tigers Masterclasses are open to all young players aged from under-11 to under-16 who want to develop their individual skills and build their knowledge of the game of rugby in the company of top-class coaches at the home of the Leicester Tigers.
