Youngsters from all around the UK took part in Leicester Tigers Masterclass coaching series on the Welford Road pitch during the school half-term holiday.

The one-day coaching masterclasses offer position-specific rugby training for players aged from under-11s to under-16s and up to under-18 girls with advice from Tigers’ top coaches and players.

The opening day on Tuesday was based on Attack and Decision Making, led by Tigers first-teamer Matt Smith, and showed different attacking plays and skills required in the modern game.

Wednesday saw coach Brett Deacon take a lead on Breakdown and Defence, with young players gaining an appreciation of defensive play.

Scrum coach Boris Stankovich then put the age groups through their paces on Thursday in a Forward Play masterclass and how to gain an upper hand in the thick of the action.

On the final day, Tigers hosted a Girls Masterclass led by former club captain and coach Ian ‘Dosser’ Smith.

Sean Kenny watched his son Elliot take part in the Attack and Decision Making session and said: “He was very excited this morning and couldn’t wait to get stuck in. He’s a massive Tigers fan, so to walk out on to the pitch here today has been a real treat.”

During half-term week, Tigers Rugby Camps were also hosted at Stoke-on-Trent RFC and at Wymondham RFC in Norfolk with sessions over three and four days.

The next set of Tigers Rugby Camps are hosted at Stamford School, Lincolnshire (July 24-28), Swaffham RFC, Norfolk (July 24-28) and Diss RFC, Norfolk (July 31-August 4).
