Ben Youngs says a "tremendous team effort" lay at the heart of England's 21-16 victory over Wales at the Millennium Stadium.England recovered from an early 10-0 deficit in their opening game of this season’s RBS 6 Nations to get their campaign off to a winning start in Cardiff.
Youngs was one of England’s stand-out performers on Friday night but the Leicester Tigers scrum-half said that everyone played their part.
“It was a team effort,” said Youngs, who won his 43rd England cap. “There were some individual bits but we grafted hard as a team.
“The guys weren’t intimidated by the atmosphere. We embraced it and grew as a side the longer the game went on.
“The belief was there and we kept working hard for each other. It was a tremendous team effort. The guys who came off the bench gave even more and that makes it even more satisfying.”
Youngs is part of the 33-man England squad that has assembled at their Pennyhill Park training base to prepare for Saturday’s clash with Italy.
Youngs is joined in the squad by Tigers teammates Dan Cole, Tom Croft, Graham Kitchener, Tom Youngs and Geoff Parling, who missed the Wales game as he recovered from a knee injury.
In addition, Manu Tuilagi joins Courtney Lawes and Tom Wood (both Northampton Saints) and David Wilson (Bath Rugby) in camp to continue his recovery from injury.
