We're not getting ahead of ourselves, says Youngs

Ben Youngs says the Leicester Tigers squad cannot get ahead of itself after last weekend's win over Newcastle at Welford Road.

Speaking to LTTV at Oval Park, the scrum-half admitted to being "excited" ahead of the short trip along the M69 for a clash with the long-time Leicester rivals but was also adamant a strong week of preparation was vital for the Tigers squad before the Coventry clash with Wasps.

"The important thing is to not get ahead of ourselves, we had a great performance but we need a good week this week to prepare for Wasps," he said.

"I am definitely, well excited for this one!"

Tigers 49-33 win over the Falcons capped a rollercoaster week for the Leicester side, which included a first round loss to Exeter and promotion of Geordan Murphy to the role of Interim Head Coach following the departure of Matt O'Connor just two days later.

"The boys want to perform for him."

Youngs, who previously played with Murphy before the Irishman made the move in to coaching, said the squad was committed to performing for their new boss and had showed as much in the clash with Newcastle.

"A week is a long time in sport ... the application, mindset and attitude to go out and perform was unbelievable," said Youngs.

While Youngs is now one of Leicester's most experienced players, the scrum-half was just seventeen when he made his senior debut and when asked about what advice he had passed on to the next generation of Tigers making their mark, the 29-year-old admitted it wasn't something he felt the talented youngsters needed.

"I haven't given them any advice ... they're in there because they are more than capable of coping with it," he said.
