Bleddyn Jones paid tribute to his former coach Chalkie White after taking the sixth spot in the Leicester Tigers Walk of Legends.

Jones joins Dusty Hare, Rory Underwood, Sir Clive Woodward, Paul Dodge and John Duggan in the Legends XV after winning the supporters’ vote to fill the fly-half position ahead of Les Cusworth, Andy Goode and Joel Stransky.

“It’s interesting that the players already voted into the Walk of Legends, apart from Rory Underwood, came under the tutelage of Chalkie White,” said Jones who first came to Leicester nearly 40 years ago.

“He was a very influential coach. It’s a tribute to him.”

The popular Jones played 333 times for Tigers between 1969 and 1978, scoring 42 tries. He now commentates on Tigers games for BBC Radio Leicester.

“With my nine years as a player of more than 300 games, 10 years as a summariser on BBC Radio Leicester at home games and 20 years as a commentator, I must have played and covered more than 1,000 games for the Tigers,” Jones, 60, said.

“When I played for the Tigers in the amateur days I was a teacher and I felt I represented the county because I worked and lived in Leicester and I played for the Tigers. I feel that the present players wear the Tigers jersey with pride.”
