Welford Road hosted the players, coaches and supporters of six teams from across the region for the Prima Tiger Cup Celebration Day on Sunday.

Under-10s teams representing Shipston-on-Stour, Silhillians, Stamford, Syston, Trentham and Woodrush rugby clubs followed in the footsteps of legends by playing on the Leicester Tigers turf.

The Prima teams opened a massive day of rugby with a series of fixtures ahead of the Aviva Premiership match between Tigers and Wasps, and the teams returned to the pitch for a group photo at half-time in front of a sell-out 25,849 crowd.

Trentham and Woodrush met in the Prima Tiger Shield, Shipston-on-Stour played Syston in the Prima Tiger Bowl, and Silhillians and Stamford played in the Prima Tiger Cup.

Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is a free-to-enter contact-based fun event open to all clubs at Under-10 level with teams in four festivals where Tigers identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under our event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.

Simon Bason, head coach at Shipston-on-Stour, said: “Today has just been a fantastic opportunity for the kids. We came here for the last round of games and we thought that was going to be the highlight for us, but to get invited back for today we were really, really chuffed and I’m so proud of them.

“The organisation has been fantastic, it’s a big thing for us today. We’ve brought nearly 80 people on two coaches and not just mums and dads but supporters of the club have come to watch so it’s been a fantastic experience.”
