Jasper Wiese and Marco van Staden came out on the winning side with South Africa A against the British & Irish Lions in Cape Town on Wednesday evening.
The Leicester Tigers duo combined forces in the Springboks back row as they recorded a 17-13 victory and inflicted a first defeat on the Lions in the tour.
A strong South African team included experienced Test operators led by Faf de Klerk, Eben Etzebeth, Cheslin Kolbe and Pieter-Steph du Toit in the countdown towards the opening Test of the series and established a 14-point lead in the first half.
The Lions did fight back in the second half, during which Van Staden was one of a pair of Springboks to be yellow-carded, but the hosts were able to close out a victory, ending a run of big victories over provincial sides for the tourists.
