Dolly enjoying digging in with Tigers

Nic Dolly made it three tries from just two appearances in the new Premiership campaign, when the Leicester Tigers hooker crossed at the back of a driving maul in the 66th minute of Friday night's away win at Kingsholm.

The 22-year-old made just one league appearance in his debut season at Tigers, as a replacement, before earning the chance to wear the No.2 shirt in the opening two rounds of the new campaign.

In his first league start, Dolly managed a double in front of the Mattioli Woods Welford Road crowd and added a third to his season tally in the bonus-point win over Gloucester in Round 2 - as well as picking up his first Player of the Match award as voted by BT Sport commentators.

And, while his name was all the talk following the victory, the man himself was only interested in discussing his team-mates when speaking post-match at Kingsholm.

"I think the boys dug in hard for one another tonight," said Dolly.

"The camaraderie and belief we have throughout the week, in our training, really showed when times got tough ... you just have to opt in, put yourself in the battle."

Leicester faced a pumped up Gloucester outfit, supported well by a passionate Kingsholm crowd, which Dolly admits was "tough" for he and his Tigers team-mates.

"They’re always a tough crowd to come and play in front of but we know our game plan, we believe in our game plan and stuck to it tonight," he said.

"But, while we got a good win, there is a lot to work on."

Sitting in first place after two rounds of the new season has been a hot-topic among many after a fortnight of action, but Dolly - and his fellow Tigers - says the only conversation among the group is on the next job.

"It doesn’t mean much to us, we take it week by week, and keep grinding at training," Dolly said.

"It’s all about next week now and making sure we prepare as well as we can to turn up against Saracens."

Leicester Tigers welcome Saracens to Mattioli Woods Welford Road in Round 3 of the 21/22 Gallagher Premiership season on Saturday, October 2 at 3.00pm.
