Join the heroes of Paris 2001

The heroes of Paris 2001 - when Leicester Tigers were crowned champions of Europe for the first time - are being reunited at Welford Road to mark the 10th anniversary of that famous day.

In May 2001, despite playing in their opponents' home city, Tigers beat Stade Francais 34-30 in the Parc des Princes in a thrilling final.

Just a week after completing a domestic double with victory in the Premiership and the new Championship play-off, Tigers went to Paris and out-scored their hosts three tries to none. Leon Lloyd and Neil Back claimed second-half tries and, with time almost up, one last break from Austin Healey released Lloyd to score decisively in the corner.

Full-back Tim Stimpson then proved the coolest man in Paris, landing a touchline conversion to put the result beyond doubt. Tears of relief and joy flowed from the huge visiting support.

The scenes at the final whistle, and throughout the city afterwards, will live on in the memories of all who shared them.

Now the great names of 2001 are coming together again, including Martin Johnson, Martin Corry, Ben Kay, Lloyd, Stimpson, Healey and Back. And you can join them at a celebratory dinner at the home of Leicester Tigers.

Kings of Europe – the Reunion is being organised by Tigers Events, in association with Tight5Events, in the Premiership Suite at Welford Road on the evening of Thursday, May 26. Tickets are available now, priced £89 + VAT per person.

Book early to avoid disappointment. Phone Tigers Events on 0116 2171294 or email [email protected] for details.
