Tigers quartet join Nottingham on loan

Leicester Tigers quartet Jordan Coghlan, Joe Browning, Osman Dimen and Emeka Ilione have joined Nottingham Rugby on loan for the 2021 Championship season.

“This season, we do not have the matches available to develop players that we’ve previously been afforded to continue their progression and loan opportunities like this present the chance for them, which is crucial at this early stage in their careers"

Steve Borthwick

Back-rower Coghlan joined Tigers in the summer of 2019 after two seasons with Nottingham and has made 11 appearances for Leicester.

Outside-back Browning graduated from the Tigers Academy after featuring the club’s 2019 Under-18 League win, when he scored two tries in the Final, and has represented England Under-18s.

Front-rower Dimen joined the Development Squad from Loughborough University after appearing in the club’s 2018/19 Premiership Shield campaign.

Ilione, a two-time Under-18 League winner with the Tigers Academy, was promoted to the Development Squad during the summer of 2020 and returns to the city where he played his junior rugby for Nottingham High School and Nottingham Corsairs RFC.

The trio are yet to appear for the Tigers senior squad.

Speaking about the loan agreements with Nottingham, Tigers head coach Steve Borthwick said: “We are very grateful to Nottingham for these opportunities, which give four of our players the chance to get game time in the competitive Championship tournament.

“This season, we do not have the matches available to develop players that we’ve previously been afforded to continue their progression and loan opportunities like this present the chance for them, which is crucial at this early stage in their careers.

“Jordan [Coghlan] understands the competition in the Championship, as well as the standards expected at Nottingham and will also get match opportunities he might not here at Tigers.

“These four players are impressive young men who we are certain will represent the club in the way we expect of them.”

Nottingham begin their Championship campaign at home against Ealing Trailfinders on March 6.
