After both sides opened the Aviva Premiership season with victory last weekend, Leicester Tigers and Harlequins go head to head at Welford Round in Round 2 this Sunday (2.00pm).

Quins enjoyed a 26-21 win over Wasps at the Twickenham Stoop last Friday, with skipper Nick Evans scoring a try, two conversions and four penalties.

Director of rugby Conor O’Shea brought England World Cup trio Mike Brown, Joe Marler and Nick Easter straight back into the fold on Friday, with all starting among the replacements in Round 1. The team also included summer signing Adam Jones in the front row and former Australia captain James Horwill at lock.

Tigers gave debuts to six players in a 28-16 victory over hosts London Irish at the Madejski Stadium last Sunday to start the season n a winning note for a fourth successive year. Peter Betham scored his first Aviva Premiership try and fly-half Tommy Bell kicked 23 points.

The win gave Tigers some sense of revenge after losing at home to Irish 12 months ago – in the only home defeat of the league season.

Quins are chasing a pair of victories in Rounds 1 and 2 for the first time since 2012 and travel in the knowledge they have lost just twice to Tigers in the last nine meetings – in the semi-final in 2013 and the Round 6 game last season. Blaine Scully scored the decisive try on that occasion, with Owen Williams kicking five penalties in a 22-16 verdict. “Quins have recruited well in the summer, they play their own style of rugby and they are always very difficult to play against,” said Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill.

“Our squad put up a great effort at Irish last week and that group of players who took us through the pre-season and into that game deserved the opportunity. Now we have the majority of the World Cup boys back and we want to integrate them and pick from a position of even greater strength.”

Team news from both camps will be announced at noon on Friday.

Tigers versus Quins is the first half of a top-flight double header at Welford Road on Sunday with a Women’s Premiership match between Lichfield Ladies and Wasps Ladies to follow at 4.15pm. There is also coverage on the TVs and big screens in Final Whistle from the World Cup semi-final between Argentina and Australia from 4pm.
