Matt Toomua says the recent appointment of Geordan Murphy to the head coach role at Leicester Tigers has provided much needed stability to the squad ahead of the second half of the season.

The Australia international is also confident that the incredible effort being put in each day by players and staff at the club have shown with improvements in performance since Murphy was handed the role full time and things are heading in the right direction.

When asked about Murphy’s appointment, Toomua said: “There’s much more stability in the squad now, definitely.”

“The way the year started certainly wasn’t ideal and I think the performances have reflected that.”

“We have amazing staff and players trying really, really hard each day to turn it around but we needed the stability there, so hopefully with the appointment [of Geordan] we’ve got that now.”

Looking ahead to the second half of the 2018/19 campaign, Toomua admits change won’t come overnight.

“As much as we would like it to be an overnight thing, it won’t be, and we’ve got to continue to build on the improvements made in recent weeks to keep going in the right direction.”
