Deacon: Tigers determined to finish strong at home

Leicester Tigers assistant coach Brett Deacon says Tigers are focusing on finishing the 2023/24 season on a positive note this Saturday at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

“Friday was obviously a disappointing result for us,” Deacon said.

“Reviewing the game, our discipline gave them far too many opportunities to dictate the game and when you’re under pressure like that, executing your game plan becomes harder and harder.

“As coaches, we spend a lot of time reviewing our game, reviewing our training content and again, we know that ultimately, we’re judged on results, but as a group we’re seeing the opportunities created and that our game is evolving in the right way.

“Exeter is a huge game for us. Our supporters have turned up all season as they always do, and we have to put a performance in for them.”

Saturday’s fixture also serves as a final farewell for the club’s departing players.

Deacon insisted Tigers would also be determined to give the likes of Jasper Wiese, the send-off they deserved.

“Saying goodbye to players is never easy, especially ones who have given so much to the jersey,” Deacon explained.

“I know how special it is to play for this club, and I’ve no doubt those boys, especially those who were part of a Premiership winning team, will leave here proud that they played and won for Leicester Tigers.

“You never want to single anyone out, but I think everyone at the club will miss Jasper’s impact because he’s a special player and a good guy off the field.

“He came here hungry to progress in his career and he’s certainly done that.

“No doubt he’ll leave nothing in the tank on Saturday.”
