Preview | Tigers begin European Campaign

Figure image

The Investec Champions Cup takes centre stage in the rugby world and Michael Cheika's Leicester Tigers side kick-off their campaign with a trip to Top14 flyers, Bordeaux-Begles.

Bordeaux have been in terrific form to begin their domestic season, and will be hoping to capitalise on a breakout European showing last season.

Tigers have started well under Cheika, who last coached in the Champions Cup in 2009 (the final...we'll leave it there for now) and have made a habit of upsetting the betting odds in France over the last couple of seasons.

Team News

Bordeaux have gone with a strong side for their home clash, with the likes of Matthieu Jalibert and Damian Penaud just a few familar names included.

Tigers, with Hollywoodbets Sharks coming to Leicester next week, have rested those required to miss a game after the Autumn Nations series, but still have Freddie Steward and Jack van Poortvliet in their ranks.

Stats and Facts

Leicester Tigers have won four of their six away games this season.

Tigers most recent victory in the Investec Champions Cup was 27-24 at Stade Francais in round two last year.

The Tigers 12-45 defeat at La Rochelle last year snapped a run of six straight wins against French clubs. Leicester have won on five of their last six visits to France.

The two clubs only previous meeting was also at Chaban-Delmas in December 2021, where Leicester won 16-13.
