Prima teams enjoy Welford Road experience

Welford Road hosted the players, coaches and supporters of eight teams from across the region for the Prima Tiger Bowl and Shield on Saturday afternoon.

Under-10s teams representing Holt, Kenilworth, Norwich and Shipston rugby clubs followed in the footsteps of sporting legends by running out on the Leicester Tigers turf as part of the Prima Tiger Bowl, while teams from Diss, Lutterworth, North Walsham and Woodrush came together in the Prima Tiger Shield.

The teams watch the Leicester Tigers match against Gloucester Rugby in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, had photos taken on the pitch at half-time in front of an 18,000-strong crowd and then played in their own fixtures following the final whistle.

Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is a free-to-enter contact-based fun event open to all clubs at under-10s level with teams playing in four regional festivals where Tigers identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.

Jonathan Jenkins, a coach at Kenilworth, said: “Thanks to everyone at Tigers, everyone from Kenilworth had a great day out on Saturday.

“Everyone enjoyed the journey this year and we even brought this year’s under-nines head coach along to get him ready for the Prima Tiger Cup next year.”

Shipston-on-Stour and Woodrush have been invited back to play at the Prima Tiger Cup Celebration Day later in the season.

A second round of teams will join Tigers after the match against Sale Sharks on Sunday, November 19.

Places in the Prima Tiger Cup are limited, to register your interest for next year or for any further enquiries, please email [email protected] or visit https://www.leicestertigers.com/community/prima-tiger-cup
