Welford Road hosted the players, coaches and supporters of eight teams from across the region for the Prima Tiger Bowl and Shield on Sunday afternoon.
Under-10s teams representing Ilkeston, Lichfield, Shrewsbury and Syston rugby clubs followed in the footsteps of sporting legends by running out on the Leicester Tigers turf as part of the Prima Tiger Bowl, while teams from Melton Mowbray, Nottingham Corsairs, Tamworth and Trentham came together in the Prima Tiger Shield.
The teams also watched the Tigers match against Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership, had their photo taken on the pitch at half-time in front of a 20,000-strong crowd and then played in their own fixtures following the final whistle. supported by families and friends.
Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is a free-to-enter contact-based fun event open to all clubs at Under-10 level with teams in four festivals where Tigers identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under our event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.
Nottingham Corsairs coach Nigel Bradley said: “It’s a great privilege to come here on the Welford Road pitch and to have a game here is fantastic.
“This team has the same opportunity as the teams that have taken part before and it’s great for all the kids.
“The set-up of the Prima Tiger Cup is spot-on and it’s something the kids will remember for the rest of their lives.”
Syston and Trentham have been invited back to play at the Prima Tiger Cup Celebration Day later in the season.
