Quartet help England to make it two from two

George Martin led an England Under-18s squad containing three other Leicester Tigers players to a second successive win with a 33-12 success against France at Cheshunt RFC.

Second-rower Martin was joined in the matchday squad by Tigers academy colleagues Freddie Steward, James Whitcombe and Jack van Poortvliet as England followed up last week’s victory over Scotland to make it two from two with five tries against the French.

England led 26-0 at the break with tries from Tom Roebuck, Max Ojomoh, Alfie Barbeary, Josh Gillespie and three George Barton conversions, while Raphael Quirke added another touchdown after the break.

Head coach Jim Mallinder said: “We are really pleased, especially in the first half when we were outstanding. We’ve only really had two days training so to put together a performance like that was a real credit to the players.

“We’ve got a good group, defensively you see the spirit of the team, our set-piece worked well in the first half and we scored some good tries.”

In April an Under-19s team will play Wales in Bridgend before the Under-18 Six Nations festival where England face Wales, Ireland and France.
