Wiese credits Tigers coaches after Bath win

Jasper Wiese believes there is still a lot to come from he and his Leicester Tigers team-mates, but did admit that the come from behind victory over Bath was a ‘special win’ on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking at full-time after being awarded the Gallagher Player of the Match award, Wiese paid tribute to Leicester’s Round 17 opponents following the tough battle.

“All credit to Bath, it’s a tough place to come and play,” he said.

“They showed their quality today even though it didn’t go their way.”

Discussing the performance of he and his Tigers team-mates, he added: “I think we still have a lot to improve on but it was a special win, we’re proud to come away with the victory today.”

“There is plenty we need to work on to carry our game forward.”

Asked about whether there was any extra motivation to deliver a result coming up against a side at the opposite end of the league ladder, the Leicester back-rower said the focus at Tigers remains the same no matter who the opponent is.

“We are not worried about the table or where we are on it,” said Wiese.

“We just focus on getting better each week, each game.

“You come away from every game, review it and see what needs improving to be better for the next challenge.”

The South African also credited the work of the Leicester Tigers coaches for their ‘hard work’ in ensuring the playing group are prepared for every game.

“We’re blessed to have such a hard working coaching group who prepare us so well and are always pushing us to be better,” Wiese said.

“That focus is always on what needs to be better, we don’t rest and just want to find all the ways we can be better tomorrow than we were today.”
