I was just in the right place, says Bateman

Greg Bateman says he was in the right place at the right time to score his brilliant try against Harlequins.

Bateman charged over from around 30 metres to score a crucial try in the 31-28 victory at the Twickenham Stoop.

The front-rower’s burst took him past Quins captain James Horwill before he stepped round England full-back Mike Brown to score next to the posts.

It has earned Bateman a nomination in the Citizen Try of the Week for Round 4 of the Aviva Premiership.

And Bateman said: “I was just in the right place at the right time. I got a good ball from Fordy and managed to run it in.”

He added: “I think when you come away from home and the momentum swings in a match, you’re just ready to pounce upon it.

“We’re fortunate to have some good boys in our group and were ready for when it swung our way. We just managed to get that vital score.

“I think wins away from home are what you can really build your season from.”
