The 41-14 victory secured England’s progress into the final of the competition, to be staged at Worcester Warriors next weekend.
England scored five tries, with three of them coming from penalty scores at close-range scrums awarded by French referee Mr Romain Poite.
Leicester Tigers No8 Crane scored England’s second try with a dive over from close range, and was in control of the ball as referee Poite twice awarded penalty tries on the way to a 24-0 lead at half-time.
The incessant rain did not help handling or spreading the ball wide, but England were dominant at scrum and lineout as they booked a place in the Churchill Cup Final at Worcester next weekend.
A third penalty try followed midway through the second half and then Crane turned provider for a try by Tigers colleague Twelvetrees.
Mike Brown made the initial break from inside his own half and, when Crane was closed down 20 metres out, he had to vision to put a right-footed grubber kick through to put Twelvetrees in to stretch the lead.
Twelvetrees’ celebrations were over within a minute as he was yellow-carded for hands in a ruck and Tonga made the most of it as flanker Pepa Koloamatangi barged over for the visitors’ second try of the day, lock Sione Timani having opened their account early in the second half.
