Leicester Tigers have signed Argentina international Juan Pablo Socino.

The international back, currently playing for Saracens, will join Tigers ahead of the 2021/22 season.

What stood out was his desire to want to continue to get better as a player as well as being eager to want to be a part of what we are building at Leicester Tigers

Born in Buenos Aires, Socino represented Argentina at Under-19 and Under-20 level before making his Test debut in 2015 in a midfield pairing alongside current Leicester Tigers centre Matías Moroni.

Socino’s professional club career began in 2010 with Rotherham Titans, before spending a season with French side US Dax, and then, from 2013, returning to England to join Nottingham Rugby.

In 2014, he joined Newcastle Falcons and made more than 100 appearances before joining Edinburgh for the 2018/19 campaign and then Saracens in 2020/21.

Speaking about the addition of Socino, Leicester Tigers Head Coach Steve Borthwick said: “Juan is an experienced player, at club and international level, and a good professional who we are looking forward to welcoming to Leicester Tigers.

“In speaking with him, what stood out was his desire to want to continue to get better as a player as well as being eager to want to be a part of what we are building at Leicester Tigers.

“Juan is a player with positional flexibility, who adds strong depth to our backline and will also be a great addition to our young, inexperienced squad as an experienced professional.”

Discussing his move to Tigers, Socino said: “I’m really excited to be joining such an important club like Leicester Tigers.

“Having spoken to Steve, I am really looking forward to joining this group and to contribute in what they are trying to build towards.

“They have a great balance between youth and experience, and it’s already showing on the pitch with great results.

“It’s exciting times at the club and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.”

The Argentina international is Borthwick’s ninth addition to the Tigers squad for the 2021/22 campaign alongside the already-announced Freddie Burns, Eli Snyman, Marco Van Staden, Francois Van Wyk and four graduates to the senior squad from the Leicester Tigers Academy.
