Mellish RFC hosted the fourth and final festival of the Prima Tiger Cup 2017/18 season for under-10s teams on Sunday.
Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is a free-to-enter contact-based fun event open to all clubs at Under-10 level (RFU defined).
The event takes part over four festivals covering the Tigers academy region and beyond, where Tigers will be looking to identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under our event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.
On Sunday teams from Dronfield, Ilkeston, Kesteven, Keyworth, Lincoln, Melbourne, Melton Mowbray, Newark, Nottingham Corsairs, Paviours, Southwell, Syston and hosts Mellish took part in the fourth festival of the season and even had the chance to meet Tigers wing Tom Brady who offered his support and encouragement from the touchlines.
Ilkeston, Kesteven, Melton Mowbray, Newark, Nottingham Corsairs and Syston have now been invited to participate in a series of games at the Tigers’ Welford Road stadium, providing a fantastic experience for young players.
Alex Weatherall, a coach at Mellish, said: “Our lads all had an absolute ball, it was a great experience for them and all of our parents were also very positive about the effort and work that all the Tigers team put in for the morning.
“As coaches, we appreciated the input from the Tigers reps, I really liked the rucking drill we were shown by one of them before the games started and no doubt it will be used by us in the future.
“The weather certainly helped, but really it was just icing on the cake of a great morning of rugby.
“No doubt Tom Brady would rather have been playing against the Falcons today, but it was appreciated by all that he took the time to come down and see all the kids. He was great with us all when he came over.”
Attracting more than 70 entries each season, the Prima Tiger Cup is the largest and most prestigious single age group playing opportunity in the rugby calendar.
