Tamworth Rugby Club hosted the third festival of the Prima Tiger Cup season for under-10s teams on Sunday.
Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is a free-to-enter contact-based fun event open to all clubs at under-10s level (RFU defined).
The event takes part over four festivals covering the Tigers academy region and beyond where organisers look to identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under our event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.
On Sunday teams from Atherstone, Belper, Burton, Oadby Wyggestonian, Leicester Forest, Lichfield, Shrewsbury, Silhillians, Stafford, Trentham, Uttoxeter and hosts Tamworth took part in the third festival and also had the chance to meet Tigers wing Jonah Holmes who offered encouragement from the sidelines.
Burton, Lichfield, Shrewsbury, Silhillians, Tamworth and Trentham have been invited to participate in a series of games later in the season at the Tigers’ famous Welford Road stadium, providing a fantastic experience to young players.
David Callaghan, a coach at Leicester Forest, said: “The coaches, children and parents had a great time at Tamworth.
“The refereeing was consistent across all our games and the referees we had our pitches talked the children through the game and explained the decisions.
“Everything seemed to run on time and the parents are already looking forward to another Tigers tour in the new year at Butlins Minehead for the Tigers Challenge.”
Attracting more than 70 entries each season, the Prima Tiger Cup is the largest and most prestigious single age-group playing opportunity in the rugby calendar.
The last area festival is hosted by Mellish RFC this Sunday (October 29)
