The confessions, the cups and the popcorn!

Everyone has great memories of the Heineken Cup and this week we share the favourites of those at the centre of the action in the Leicester Tigers matchday programme.

Tigers will be presented with their Elite Award by European Rugby Cup ahead of kick-off at Sunday’s match against Perpignan in recognition of reaching 100 games in Europe’s elite club tournament.

To celebrate the occasion, we’ve collected scores of memories from players, officials and fans from 15 fantastic years in Europe.

We include contributions from Martin Johnson, Graham Rowntree, George Chuter, Austin Healey, Pat Howard, Leon Lloyd, Ben Kay, Martin Corry, directors Peter Tom, Peter Wheeler and David Clayton, and many more.

Pick up a copy of Sunday’s matchday programme and you can learn:
The angers of eating pre-match popcorn
Where Neil Back could become Lord Mayor
The Heineken Cup’s place in church
Who was first to drop the cup
Ben Kay’s worst-ever swap
Pat Howard’s wallet confessional
Why Geordan Murphy depressed a Euro hero
The worst half-four of Martin Corry’s life

And we’ve got the memories of the supporters who followed the team every step of the way, including memories of Paris ’01, Cardiff ’02, wedding day blues, the coldest beer in Europe, the dangers of translation – and the ultimate test of a Scotsman’s kilt.

It’s all in the Tigers matchday programme this Sunday. Pick up your copy from around Welford Road stadium. Price £3.

There are so many memories of the Heineken Cup that we've got more left over to use in the programme for the Round 6 match against Benetton Treviso in the new year. If you want to contribute your own, then please email [email protected]
