Geordan Murphy, George Chuter and Richard Cockerill are among the Leicester Tigers heroes who have been honoured at the launch of the Premiership Rugby Hall of Fame.

The Hurlingham Club in London hosted the Premiership Rugby Hall of Fame Ball, in association with British Airways and Tag Heuer, wich inducted 31 coaches and players to celebrate the first 15 years of Premiership Rugby. Eleven of the inductees have worn the Tigers shirt.

Director of rugby Cockerill, club captain Murphy and Premiership appearances record-holder Chuter were among the inductees for 2013, joining former colleagues including Dean Richards, Martin Johnson and Martin Corry on the list.

From the opening era of Premiership history, when Tigers won four successive league titles, the Hall of Fame inducted captain Johnson, director of rugby Richards and Austin Healey.

Richards attended the Hall of Fame Ball and said: "It's an honour and I'm delighted but you are always a little puzzled at how you get picked. It was quite a surprise to be nominated but I'm pleased to be here.

“It's a bit of a who's who of OAP rugby. The next time we meet will be in an old people's home. It's nice to see old friends and catch up with others. As they say, the older you are, the better you were."

The second selection came from the 2003-07 period and included Tigers quartet Corry, John Wells, Martin Castrogiovanni and Pat Howard.

Corry said: "The award is special because when you finish playing you kind of feel that's you done. It's great to come back and has been a fantastic evening, really special.

"I went to Leicester because if you were successful there you knew you would go a long way. Thankfully it was a great time for me."

Former Tigers player, coach and Academy boss Andy Key was recognised for his work with Leeds Carnegie.

The event supported Red Nose Day, which funds Premiership Rugby’s award-winning social inclusion programme Hitz.
