Jasper Wiese and Marco van Staden helped secure a series win for South Africa over the British & Irish Lions on Saturday (August 7) at Cape Town Stadium.
The Springboks overturned a four-point deficit at the half time break to record a 19-16 victory, with veteran fly-half Morne Steyn landing a penalty-goal in the dying stages of the game to seal the win in similar fashion to 12 years ago.
Both teams exchanged penalty-goals early in the first-half, before the visitors crashed over for the opening try of the match in the 19th minute through hooker Ken Owens on the end of a driving maul.
Handre Pollard added a second penalty-goal in the final minutes of the first half, to close the gap to four points (6-10) at the break.
The home side took back the lead in the 56th minute when Cheslin Kolbe danced his way through and around Lions defenders, which Pollard converted, before a tense final quarter included a kicking dual between Steyn and Finn Russell with two penalties apiece.
Wiese was at his physical best for the 'Boks, which included seven carries and ten tackles in 63 minutes before being replaced at the back of the scrum following a cut to the head.
Fellow back-rower and future Tigers team-mate van Staden was injected in to the action off the South African bench in the 56th minute, replacing Springboks captain Siya Kolisi at flanker.
The Leicester duo will now remain in South Africa with the national squad as they prepare to take on Argentina, Australia and New Zealand in the 2021 Rugby Championship.
