Tigers supporting local clubs this weekend

Leicester Tigers are supporting events at two local rugby clubs this weekend.

Newark RFC mark their centenary this Saturday, September 7 with an action-packed day of activities at their Kelham Road ground, and Tigers will be there to take part in the celebrations.

The Nottinghamshire club is the former home of Leicester legend Dusty Hare, former Tigers captain and coach John Wells, and current player Jordan Olowofela.

Tigers mascot Welford will be making an appearance from 12.30pm, along with the club’s roadshow vehicle The Maul featuring Fordy’s Kicking Challenge and the inflatable Tackle Bag, plus all-new challenge ‘The Vault’, which offers supporters the chance to win exclusive Tigers prizes.

Newark’s second XV face their Southwell RFC counterparts from 2.00pm, while the firsts take on Southwell’s first XV from 3.00pm. Entry is completely free for all supporters, with food provided throughout the afternoon.

Elsewhere, Tigers will also be supporting Tamworth RFC as they raise funds for children’s rugby charity Wooden Spoon with a 6000-mile ‘Tamworth to Tokyo’ fun run at their Wigginton Park base.

Club members and supporters will attempt to cumulatively run (or walk) the total distance between the Staffordshire town and the capital city of this year’s Rugby World Cup hosts.

The event runs from 4.00pm this Friday, September 6 to 4.00pm on Saturday, September 7, and Tigers will be setting up with the inflatable Tackle Bag and Welford’s Wheel, offering more chances for supporters to win Tigers goodies.
