Tigers win prestigious fan experience award

Leicester Tigers beat competition from sports organisations across the world to win a prestigious award for the best fan experience – thanks to the Junior Tigers Club.

Tigers won the Fan Experience Award at TheStadiumBusiness Awards 2018 for the activities of the Junior Tigers Club and its Takeover Day, which puts young fans at the heart of a matchday at Welford Road.

Leicester Tigers, year-on-year, showcase how they are growing as a venue with the Fan Experience at the forefront of all of their enhancements across all levels.

Dom McGeever, Tigers marketing promotion executive, who runs the Junior Tigers Club, said: “We’re delighted to pick up the award for best Fan Experience.

“We were up against some really impressive global sports brands so to be recognised by the industry is a great achievement for everyone involved.

“A special thank you to Next and The Nottingham Building Society, whose support helps to make everything possible, and to the young fans who make the Junior Tigers Club such an important part of the Tigers Family and matchdays at Welford Road.

“We have a great team in place to run activities and competitions throughout the season and we’re already looking to how we can offer even more next season.”

Tigers have held a JTC Takeover Day in each of the last seven seasons. This season’s event was staged at the league game against Northampton Saints, when young supporters took over key matchday roles behind the scenes, including announcer, photographer and kitman, as well as reporter, DJ and interviewer.

The Junior Tigers Club, supported by high street retailer next and The Nottingham Building Society, is a free membership for fans up to 16 years old which now has more than 40,000 members.

Members have exclusive matchday access to the VIP area in the Final Whistle, with games, activities and the chance to hear from Tigers players in a Q&A. Young fans can also take part in competitions and have an exclusive opportunity to be the matchday mascot and Tigers cubs.

TheStadiumBusiness Awards’ Fan Experience Award is for the stadium, arena or major sports venue that has delivered consistently outstanding levels of service and fan experience at every stage of the customer journey.

Tigers finished ahead of fan campaigns from Jacksonville Jaguars, the American football team, the Atlanta Braves baseball team, the Ashes Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, and the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.

The judges said: “Our collective votes go to Leicester Tigers who, year-on-year, showcase how they are growing as a venue with the Fan Experience at the forefront of all of their enhancements across all levels.

“Creating an environment to connect and empower youth to participate in sports venue management is very powerful.”
