Trio start build-up with England

Ben Youngs, Dan Cole and Ellis Genge reported back to the England squad last night in preparation for the final match of the autumn series, against Australia at Twickenham this weekend.

The Leicester Tigers trio are part of a 33-man squad who have gathered at England’s Pennyhill Park training base.

Billy Vunipola (Saracens) has been released from the squad due to a knee injury. He suffered a torn cartilage in the win over Argentina on Saturday and had surgery on Sunday. It is expected Vunipola will undertake a period of rehabilitation for at least 12 weeks.

“Billy’s been absolutely fantastic for England over the last 11 months and we wish him a quick recovery,” said England head coach Eddie Jones.

“But where there is an injury there’s an opportunity for someone else. We’ve had five or six frontline players missing throughout the series so I’ve no doubt we’ll adapt and work that little bit harder this week. I’m sure the players will respond to this by going up a level and peak for this game.”

Jack Clifford will join-up with the squad and be assessed by the England medical staff throughout the week following his Head Injury Assessment during his club game this afternoon.
