Winning start for Great Britain at World Championships

Leicester Tigers’ Great Britain representatives are underway at the Wheelchair Rugby World Championships in Australia, with victory in the team's opening game against Poland.

Tigers Nick Cummins, Muhammad Islam, Gavin Walker and Jamie Stead all featured in the team’s opening two matches in Pool B against Poland and the USA.

Great Britain beat Poland 55 - 31 in the team’s opening fixture and were edged to a 47 - 41 defeat at the hands of four-times champions USA.

Other results in the group have seen surprise outfit France beat 2002 World Champions Canada and record a 50 - 45 win over Columbia.

In Pool A, holders and hosts Australia have two wins from two thanks to a 66 - 36 win over neighbours New Zealand and 71 - 38 win over Sweden. Japan are also undefeated after their first two fixtures with wins over Ireland and Denmark, with the Irish yet to record a win.

Great Britain are next in action against Canada on Tuesday, August 7 at 11.00am (2.00am GMT).
