Häfele extend support for Tigers and LTWR

Leicester Tigers partnership with Häfele will extend for an additional year in a new deal that sees them remain as the main sponsor of the Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Since officially joining the #TigersFamily back in April 2018, the furniture fittings and architectural hardware manufacturer have continued to support the growth of wheelchair rugby across the region.

Back-to-back championships and international representation over the last three years have seen the club become one of the sport’s dominant teams, now boasting a first and second’s team alongside a youth player development pathway.

Häfele’s backing saw the club unveil a new 2019/20 kit as well as the donation of eight youth wheelchairs to support the club’s wide community initiatives.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, all wheelchair rugby fixtures and activity was suspended by the Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby association.

Club chairman of LTWR Rob Tarr spoke with the club to share some light into how the sport has coped and plans for return to play in an exclusive LTTV.

Established in Germany in 1923, Häfele now has a presence spanning the globe and offers a range of over 25,000 products including innovative furniture fittings, accessories, ironmongery and hardware.

As an official partner of Leicester Tigers, Welford Road’s control tower ‘The Cube’, which sits in the north-east corner of the stadium bares Hafele branding.

With their headquarters based in Rugby, the company is committed to giving something back to its close-by communities.

Leicester Tigers chief executive officer Andrea Pinchen said: “To watch how the game of Wheelchair Rugby has come on since the club was first introduced back in 2014 is an incredible story. Success on the court has been backed up with investment to grow the club and ensure the next generation of talent will come through the Leicester ranks.

“Häfele’s support across the club and within the community is something we are proud to be associated with and we look forward to working together in this new deal.”

Natalie Davenport, head of marketing at Häfele, said: “We are extremely proud of our association with Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Team, an association which has helped us over the years develop our range of products cater more effectively for those less able. Continuing with this mutually beneficial sponsorship was a simple decision to make.”

The support of each of the club’s partners throughout the pandemic has been even more vital at a time when matchday and stadium revenues have been halted.

The commitment of partners allows Tigers to resource not only the playing squad but also continue its important role in the community.
