LTWR squad begin defence of WR5s title

Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team began the defence of their of their Wheelchair Rugby 5’s Premiership title.

Since having to postpone action due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the current holders wrapped up an unbeaten weekend with four wins from four from the competition. 

WR5s includes five players on court, whereas the Paralympic discipline has four. The Paralympic discipline of wheelchair rugby is aimed at tetraplegic players, whereas WR5s is open to anyone with a physical impairment and paraplegics.

The full results table was as follows:

Tigers 21-16 West Country Hawks
Tigers 21-9 Bournemouth Lions 
Tigers 25-3 Ospreys
Tigers 21-10 Stoke Mandeville Maulers

The sport of Wheelchair Rugby enjoyed a successful summer of the back of the Team GB squad winning gold at this year’s Paralympics in Toyko.

With representatives in the playing squad and backroom staff from Leicester Tigers, there’s still plenty of opportunities to get involved with the club.
