Mixed results for Tigers in Rugby Championship

Leicester Tigers trio Handrè Pollard, Jasper Wiese and Julián Montoya were in action during the opening weekend of the 2022 Rugby Championship in South Africa and Argentina.

Pollard and Wiese starred in the Springboks win over the All Blacks, with the soon-to-be Tigers fly-half scoring 16 points from the boot in the 26-10 victory against New Zealand.

His international team-mate and future clubmate Wiese was a force up front in attack and defence for the home side with nine carries and thirteen tackles.

In the second of the two southern hemisphere showdowns, the Los Pumas hosted Australia in Mendoza.

A fast start from Argentina - including a try from former Tigers flanker Pablo Matera - saw them on the front foot from the opening minutes, which they held on to for more than an hour.

The Wallabies took the lead for the first time in the 66th minute and crossed for back-to-back tries in the final 10 minutes to secure a 15-point, 26-41 win.

In the second round of the tournament, South Africa host New Zealand at Ellis Park and Argentina take on Australia in San Juan.
