Sir Clive named in Tigers Walk of Legends

Sir Clive Woodward has joined Dusty Hare and Rory Underwood in the Leicester Tigers Walk of legends.

Woodward is the latest Tigers star to be named in the Legends XV after winning the supporters' vote to fill the outside centre position.

He scored 43 tries in 148 appearances for Tigers from 1979-85, which included the John Player Cup wins in 1980 and 1981 and the final defeat in 1983. He also won 21 England caps and two with the British Lions and was in charge when England won the World Cup in 2003.

Woodward saw off competition from a shortlist featuring Ralph Buckingham, who scored 117 tries in 325 appearances for Leicester; former captain Brian Hall, who played 312 times for the club; and Heineken Cup hero Leon Lloyd, who scored a last-gasp try to win the 2001 final.

Over the next 12 weeks, the rest of the Walk of Legends slots will be filled week by week, position by position, with voting available through the Leicester Mercury newspaper and website.

Supporters can secure their place in the history and future of Leicester Tigers by purchasing a brick to add to the Walk of Legends, complete with a personalised message and see it laid alongside the club's heroes.

Add your own name or celebrate a birthday, or buy a place in the Walk of Legends for a friend or relative as a perfect Christmas gift for a Tigers supporter. We can also supply a replica for you to keep at home.

Prices are from £44.95 for a single brick, or £79.95 for a double brick. Or pick up a voucher to save £5 on the price at the next home game, against Harlequins at Welford Road on Saturday.

Leicester Mercury voting this week will find an inside centre from a shortlist of Paul Dodge, Daryl Gibson, Will Greenwood and Pat Howard.

See the Leicester Mercury website at www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk to make your vote.
