Six Tigers named in England tour squad

The uncapped Guy Porter and Jack van Poortvliet are among six Leicester Tigers players in the England squad for the summer tour to Australia.

National men’s coach Eddie Jones has announce d a squad of 36 players this morning ahead of the trip to Australia which includes Tests in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.

Porter, who has played at centre and wing for Tigers this season, and scrum-half van Poortvliet are joined by club colleagues Ollie Chessum, Ellis Genge, Joe Heyes and Freddie Steward in the tour party.

Chessum won his first caps during the 2022 Six Nations and like Heyes, Steward and van Poortvliet, is a graduate of the Tigers Academy.

Tigers club captain Genge is among 10 survivors of the last tour in 2016 when England won all three Test matches.

England travel tomorrow with the first Test in Perth on July 2, followed by Brisbane (July 9) and Sydney (July 16).  All of the games are live on Sky Sports

Jones said: “Though we have 10 players unavailable due to injury, we have picked a very strong squad capable of winning the series.

“This squad is a real mix of young, talented players and some very experienced, senior players and we’re looking forward to bring the group together.

“This tour will be a great experience for the group and a crucial part of the team’s work towards the Rugby World Cup in 2023.  We will continue to develop the base of the squad and how we want to play.

“We’ve put a lot of work into preparation for the tour over the past few weeks but now the hard work really begins when we finally get the squad on the plane and to Australia.”
