White Christmas for final 2021 home crowd

Leicester Tigers supporters enjoyed a white Christmas win in the Heineken Champions Cup in the closing home fixture of 2021.

Supporters travelled to Mattioli Woods Welford Road on a cold winter’s afternoon to help cheer Tigers home during their first-ever Heineken Champions Cup meeting with Irish side Connacht Rugby.

Finishing 29-23 with tries from Nic Dolly, Freddie Steward, Bryce Hegarty and Hosea Saumaki, Tigers maintained their winning start in Europe sporting their alternative white strip at the insistence of tournament organisers EPCR.

The festive fixture was packed with plenty for fans to enjoy, including the accompaniment of Thurmaston 78th Scout & Guide Band who kicked off the pre-match build-up with Christmas Carols outside the North Stand as well as a half-time performance.

Fans enjoyed mulled wine and turkey baps around the stadium, with last-minute Christmas shoppers visiting the Club Shops.

Half-time saw the regular DMU Big Boot routine with a group from Old Newtonians making five catches.

Two lucky fans also had the chance to compete in the return of club partner STIHL’s Blower Challenge, completing the obstacle course in the fastest time to win prizes.

Fans also continued to drop off presents at the Leicester Tigers Foundation donation points, supporting the Christmas collection for distribution of toys and other items to those most in need in our community this Christmas.

Tickets are still available for Leicester Tigers' next home game at New Year as Newcastle Falcons come to town on Saturday, January 2 (3.00pm).
