Leicester Tigers players have given their support to the Guinness Premiership clubs' five main principles for negotiations on the future shape of the professional game in this country.

The clubs' five principles for continued growth are:

a) Opposed to central contracts or central control
b ) Support the standard contract
c ) A Professional Board to be formed with PRA, PRL, RFU & FDR to manage professional playing issues
d) Clubs to have equal rights in European competition
e) Protect and grow the players' primary employer - the club system in England.

Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom said: "The 12 Premiership clubs employ more than 500 professional players and we value their support in ongoing discussions about the future of the game in England.

"It is important that the players' careers, their welfare and their future are properly managed, and that goes for all nationalities playing in the Premiership, not just those involved directly in RFU elite squads or English-qualified players.

"I am delighted that the players at Leicester Tigers and the other Premiership clubs are supportive of Premier Rugby's principles."
