Positives for Cockerill in seven-try win

Head coach Richard Cockerill described Saturday's win over Viadana as "job done" before turning attention to a Pool 3 showdown with the Ospreys in Swansea next Saturday.

“We got seven tries and a bonus point, it’s job done, now let’s move on,” said Cockerill after a 47-8 victory over Welford Road’s Italian visitors.

“Ospreys next week will be a completely different game.”

The only disappointment of the day came in the form of first-half injury to flanker Tom Croft, but Cockerill was happy to see the return of Julian White and Aaron Mauger as second-half replacements after their own injury problems.

“We’ve got Aaron and Whitey back and that is very good news for us,” said Cockerill. “Sam Vesty got some valuable game-time too, and Ben Woods came through it as well.”

Scott Hamilton (2), Dan Hipkiss, Toby Flood and Woods scored tries as Tigers led 35-3 at the break, with Hipkiss adding another after the break and Mauger diving into the corner for his first try of the season as Tigers wrapped up a third win from five games in Pool 3.

Fly-half Flood, who converted each of the first-half scores, was named Heineken Man of the Match and said: “The bonus point was the key for us today.

“When you have a goal achieved early on it can be difficult to kick on from there. We know we need to play a lot better next week.”
