RWC Day One: Marcelo inspires shock

Marcelo Loffreda and his Argentina side got the Rugby World Cup off to a stunning start with a 17-12 victory over hosts France in Paris on Friday evening.

France, who had never lost a game in the pool stages of a World Cup, were unable to overcome spirited Argentine defence as the Pumas issued a warning to the rest of the cup contenders.

Loffreda, who takes over as Leicester Tigers head coach after the Rugby World Cup, saw full-back Ignacio Corleto score the decisive try, with Leinster's Felipe Contepomi supplying the rest of the Argentina points with four first-half penalties in the Pool D clash.

The Pumas, who also have Leicester legend Les Cusworth in their party as director of rugby, are back in action on Tuesday against Georgia, when Tigers prop Marcos Ayerza will hope to gain his first action of the tournament.
