Thank you for Poppy Appeal support

Leicester Tigers would like to thank everyone for their support for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal at last Friday's match against Harlequins in the LV= Cup.

Representatives of the Royal British Legion and the Armed Forces were in attendance, collecting for the annual Poppy Appeal and supporters observed an impeccable minute’s silence before kick-off, in the company of bugler Darren Green of the Thurmaston Scout and Guide Band.

Tigers players wore a one-off playing kit incorporating a poppy on the right shoulder and these will be signed by the individual player and auctioned for raise more funds for the appeal. Details of the auction will be published on the club website this week.

Leicester Tigers managing director David Clayton said: “We were extremely pleased to be able to link up with this year’s Poppy Appeal and I would like to pass on my thanks to all of those who gave so generously.

“I’m sure the auction will prove popular too and raise another significant sum for the appeal.”

Tigers handed over a cheque for £895 in a half-time presentation to Jennifer Leach, Royal British Legion community fundraiser as part of the club’s Cashback initiative. In total, the Royal British Legion raised £3,188.03 towards the Poppy Appeal.

Jennifer said: "A fantastic total was raised on the night, which we are extremely happy with.

“Hopefully the shirt auction will go just as well and we hope that everyone sees what potential for an amazing Christmas present a signed Poppy Appeal Tigers shirt would be and digs deep to help our Forces past and present.

“The Poppy appeal would like to say a huge thank you to Leicester Tigers for this opportunity and we very much look forward to next year.”
