Leicester Tigers have appointed Ged Glynn as the club's new Chief Scout.

A former fly-half with Orrell, Glynn has extensive experience in rugby, including coaching spells with Loughborough University, Cambridge University, Rotherham, London Irish, England Under-21s, England 'A' and as head coach of the Spanish national team.

Working as a teacher during his playing days, he also established a sports training centre in France after enjoying a playing spell with Ussel near Brive.

Glynn, 53, said: “Leicester Tigers have always had an excellent record in spotting and nurturing talent at all levels and I’m thrilled to be given this opportunity.

“The club expects to be challenging for honours every season and to do that requires a great deal of work on recruitment as well as nurturing talent from inside the club.

“I know many of the management team very well and, after learning a lot of my rugby and my coaching ideas from my time at Loughborough, it feels like I’m coming full circle with this role at Tigers.”

From his base in France, Glynn has already advised Tigers on several overseas recruits, including Benjamin Kayser and Julien Dupuy who gained their first international caps during their spells at Welford Road.

Glynn will assume his new duties at the Oval Park training ground on July 1.

Leicester Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill said: “This club places a lot of emphasis on recruitment, not just at the top end in terms of hallmark international players, but also in bringing in players who can develop within our set-up and add to our strength in depth.

“Ged has coached at Premiership and international level, and he has a wide knowledge of playing and recruitment. We’re looking forward to his input within the management team.”
