Head of stadium operations Charles Rayner says Leicester Tigers are making every effort to ensure the Guinness Premiership game with London Wasps goes ahead on Saturday (kick off 3.15pm).
Tigers groundstaff have been working tirelessly to keep the surface free of frost and snow, and a protective canopy has been put up over the Welford Road pitch, under which warm air is being blown, to provide a barrier against the extreme weather.
Main sponsor Caterpillar have also joined the effort, supplying a telehandler to help remove more than 20 tonnes of snow from the pitch.
Rayner said: “There is a huge effort by the staff, volunteers and our main sponsor Caterpillar to try to ensure the game goes ahead.
“Midland Rock and Bardon Aggregates have provided a truck to transport the snow to the nearby Saffron Lane Sports Centre where Leicester City Council have kindly allowed us to deposit the snow in a corner of their car park.”
Saturday's kick-off has been brought forward to 3.15pm to allow the game to be played in the best possible conditions while three other Guinness Premiership fixtures have already fallen foul of the conditions.
Rayner added: “We would remind supporters kick off has been brought forward to 3.15pm and encourage them to allow as much time as possible to get to the game.”
A limited number of tickets for the match are available now from the Tigers ticket office. Phone 0844 856 1880, book online or call in at Welford Road.
