Tigers Camps kick off a new year in style

Dozens of young players enjoyed the opportunity to develop their skills with Leicester Tigers during half-term Tigers Rugby Camps and now a full programme is in place around the region for the Easter holidays.

Tigers worked with players in all age-groups at camps based at Denstone College and SMB Brooksby Campus in Melton Mowbray during the school half-term, including girls-only options, in the first camps of the new year.

Community manager Dan Hemingway said: “We had two great weeks with young players at two excellent venues.

“Thanks to SMB Brooksby Campus and Denstone College for being great hosts.

“Both venues offer excellent facilities including alternatives during the worst of the weather and we’re very grateful for their hospitality.

“The Development camp for older players was a great success, with Denstone places sold out, and the girls’ camp went very well, including a visit from Vicky Macqueen who leads the Tigers girls’ and women’s rugby programme.

“Now we are planning for the Easter break with a comprehensive range of Tigers Rugby Camps across our region.”

Holt RFC, Lincoln RFC, Leicester Forest RFC and Loughborough Grammar School are all scheduled to host Tigers Rugby Camps at Easter.

Venues promise something for every young player, girls and boys, from under-7s up to teenagers with the focus on skills development in a fun and physically active setting with professional coaches from the Tigers community team, and there's the prospect of a visit from a Tigers player too.

Tag Rugby Camps provide an introduction to the game and encouragement to gain skills in the under-7 and under-8 groups, with three mornings of games and enjoyable activities to support the development of fundamental movement, rugby and social skills.

Core Camps run over 4 or 5 full days for the under-9s to under-13s age-groups, following age-grade guidelines, with sessions based on fun activities, rugby skills and fundamental fitness.

Development Camps take place over three afternoons for the under-14, 15 and 16 age groups, with a sharper focus on tactical and technical skills alongside athletic development, all based on the themes of the club’s junior academy and ACE college programmes.

Girls-Only Camps are suitable for all abilities in the under-13, 15 and 18 groups to develop skills and game awareness.

Places are already available to book online, by phoning 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or in person at the Tigers ticket office.
