Tigers control is the key for Cockerill

Head coach Richard Cockerill says victory over Saracens at Vicarage Road "went some way to answering a lot of questions" about his Leicester Tigers team.

“It was a very good performance, we had a lot of ball, Toby Flood controlled field position really well and the forward pack were immense,” Cockerill said as Tigers triumphed 22-15 against the Guinness Premiership leaders.

“Saracens are top of the table and the table does not lie. They play a sort of game that suits them and they have been playing it well.

“You have to be a good side to beat them and we were brave enough to play at them with ball in hand and we got a good result.

“We have been poor away from home at times this season. We have been very close to winning games but we haven’t controlled the game and today we did that and our accuracy was much better.

“Some of those players have not had a huge amount of rugby and they all fronted up really well. I am delighted for the players.

“There was plenty of visiting support too and it was great to see the boys go out and thank them at the end.”

Dan Hipkiss scored the only try of the game, with fly-half Flood kicking the rest of the points, including three penalties in the last 15 minutes to seal the points.

“It was a good win, that’s three in the last three games, now we need to back that up because this is a big period for us with Saracens, then Wasps and the European games,” said Cockerill as Tigers now turn their attention to the eagerly-awaited home game against London Wasps this Saturday (5.30pm).
