Tigers make early signings

An expectant couple have bought their " Tigers twins" Welford Road season tickets and put them on The List - despite the babies not being due until the summer.

Tigers-mad Nick and Nathalie Elliott are expecting twins in July and have already secured a family season ticket in the new Caterpillar Stand for next year - adding their babies under the names Bump 1 and Bump 2.

In doing so the Elliotts, who attend home games with friend Rob Wainwright, ensured their next generation of fans are included on The List, the club's collection of requests for ticket information for the new stand and which already totals almost 1,000 supporters on top of current season ticket holders.

Nick, from Billesdon, said: "There is a nice family-friendly atmosphere at Leicester Tigers and we want to enjoy it with our twin Tigers.

"We wanted to ensure we would have seats together and not be split up or moved somewhere else in the stadium in years to come."

Nick and Nathalie are season ticket holders in the current Caterpillar Stand, which will be replaced for the start of next season when phase one of the redevelopment of Welford Road is completed.

Accountant Nick, 36, played loosehead prop at Bushloe High School and Guthlaxton College in Wigston, and for Stoneygate rugby club.

He said: "Rugby is in my blood having played for years at school and college, and I've been a Tigers season ticket holder for about 10 years.

"We had the paperwork through to say that we had been allocated seats in the new stand. There are three of us already together and I thought I would see what a family ticket costs and sent an enquiry through the website.

"I got a call from the ticket office and we asked if we could get five tickets side by side, the four of us and our friend.

"The lady in the ticket office asked for the children's details and I said 'They're not born yet but can you put them down as Bump 1 and Bump 2?' She seemed quite surprised by it!"

Nathalie, 34, a forensic science student at De Montfort University, said: ""The big attraction for us is the family orientation of the game. There is a great atmosphere and we can enjoy it together as a family.

"As a stand-alone rugby ground, Welford Road is going to be the venue to go and watch rugby.

"I think the atmosphere will just get better because the capacity will be higher. We are looking forward to it, it should be great."

David Clayton, managing director of Leicester Tigers, said: "We are always delighted to welcome new supporters to Leicester Tigers but they are not usually as new as this."
